Riviera Maya Mexico Day 1

We hadn't even been home a week from the last trip when we packed up to head to sunny Mexico. We have been looking forward to this trip for a long time. We had originally planned to go in the Winter of 2023 but ended up doing the cruise with my sisters and their families. I think an all inclusive is the way to go but we will see. I was a little nervous about traveling internationally with the kids but everything I have read assures me that it is safe. The cartels own the resorts and for sure don't want anything to happen to their clients because then people wouldn't come. Because we were going to be gone for 7 days we had each of the kids pack their own suitcase and be in charge of that...it worked really well.

The flight was pretty great. Shorter than the Hawaii flight and not to long that the kids were restless. When we got to the luggage area the kids started to make observations that we weren't in the US anymore. It was interesting to see them process all of that. Liam couldn't wait to get his alpha bots out so he played with those while we waited for our luggage. It was also pretty noticeable the temperature and humidity change. We quickly shed our sweatshirts.
Then we headed out to find our shuttle. We learned pretty early on that we do private transport and it worked out great. Our hotel was only about 25 minutes from the airport. As we entered the area there was a gate and an armed guard and then once again when we got to our specific hotel there was another gate and armed guard. That alone made me feel more secure. We quickly got checked in and headed up to our rooms. Because of our family size we did 2 adjoining rooms both with 2 queens and a pullout bed. It's nice when we travel to have 2 bathrooms as well. This tray was waiting for us when we got there. We were all pretty excited to be there
We only had a few minutes to get settled before it was time for our dinner reservations
After dinner the kids really wanted to swim but the pools were closed so we decided to let them play in the ocean. There was a wedding dinner going on so we found a quiet spot and let them get wet and sandy.

Matt and I just sat and enjoyed visiting while we watched the kids play. It felt like this was going to be a great vacation. Although I would later regret that I had let the kids get their only pair of pants wet as I forgot to have them pack warm clothes to come home in...opps!
