Sunday we started out at Indian Beach. The drive up was beautiful the further into the forest we got the more moss covered everything was. Some of the trees were huge. It was unlike anything else I had ever seen.
It was cool once we climbed to the top and then dropped in on the ocean side. Once we got closer we could see the ocean thru the trees.
The parking area was a short hike above the beach so we hike/ran down the steps to get to the ocean
Can you see the spec on the left side of the picture? It's a light house built on a rock in the ocean!
I loved the view like this with all the large rocks coming out of the water. Can you see Haystack Rock in the background?
The girls drew some hearts with everyone's name in them on the beach
The drone also made taking family photos super easy because it would get all the kids attention and then snap the picture
Em didn't like Matt flying the drone around so she grabbed a stick(just like her sisters) so she was ready if the drone attacked her
There was this cool little stream that ran onto the ocean.
It was a little cooler so the girls wanted their jackets but Em so she went back and forth between being carried and running around
This little girl loves treasures and was so excited when she found her first crab shell. We were all pretty excited ...it was a cool find
Then we headed over to Ecola State Park
All the rain had washed out the trail to get to the beach and the way around said it was a pretty difficult hike and with us and the kids we opted to look from the top and be on our way
This little girl loves chippies
Haystack Rock in the background again
Then a couple nice people offered to take our family picture
I love this guy and the support he gives me. I come up with these crazy vacations and he just goes along and helps me plan
Then we headed to Cannon Beach and the famous Haystack Rock. There was no parking anywhere close so we had to walk quite a ways from where we parked but the weather was just about right so the kids loved playing in the sand along the way. Quite a few people had dogs so we got to pet quite a few of them as well. We tried to get a hotel close to here but they were all booked even when we looked 6 months before our travel dates! We also saw some people on what looked like adult big wheels but we never saw where to rent them....next time they looked fun to try.
This boy and his silly camera tricks
Haystack Rock was huge! It was covered in moss and birds.
Even though it was cooler than what were used to playing in the water in we took off socks and shoes and we all played in the water. The tide was coming in so it was a bit tricky to stay out of the water
This little sweet girl got so worn out from running around she fell asleep being packed.
But after a quick rest she was ready to pay again
I love the way a child sees the world...her face was priceless
Then of coarse we had to find sea shells
Then it was time to check out Mo's for lunch...notice Em's poor face from her crash the day before
Matt had blackened fish tacos that we yummy and I had salmon
Since Sunday also happened to be Mother's Day we sent this pic to our moms
On the way out of lunch they had a cute gift shop that we let all the girls pick a souvenir. No surprise they picked mermaids for all of them
Then we drove about an hour to Tillamook and the cheese factory. On the way there Hallie said she wasn't feeling well and ultimately threw up a couple times. Wishfully thinking we were hoping she was car sick because of the winding highway along the coast but when we got to the cheese factory she didn't even want to get out and Em was asleep so Matt took Gracie in to see what they had. Unfortunately the factory is being renovated so they had a scaled down building of the usual factory. Luckily they still had samples
This girl and her facial expressions
After Em woke up Hallie decided she felt good enough to go check things out. It was fun to see all the steps they go thru to make the cheese and ice cream and Em had a love/hate relationship with the mooing cow. She would push the button then run away
Then we needed to try the ice cream of coarse
We wanted to hit a couple lighthouses before heading to our hotel for the night but unfortunately this is the only one we made it to. Would you have guessed right before this picture was taken Hallie threw up on the sidewalk in front of us?!? The poor girl....but she handled it so well.
The view on the path down to the light house
Its crazy how the water has carved out steep cliffs like this with so much greenery on top
I think the lights on top of the lighthouse are about half the size of the entire building
View out from the lighthouse
Miles and miles of beautiful coast line
Then we hiked up to see the octopus tree...we weren't really sure what that meant but we decided to check it out
The tree basically breaks into 8 trees
Poor Gracie tripped over a root and banged herself up pretty good she was so sad
This si what done for the day looks like
So we took a break and sat on a bench that over looked the ocean
The super steep cliffs were Matt favorite...hence all the pics
Then we drove to Lincoln City to find our hotel for the night again. I would have to say that was the hardest part of the trip...moving every day. It made it hard to really enjoy the days. Hallie threw up a couple more times and so we bypassed dinner and went straight to the hotel. Matt then went back to the grocery store and bought chicken noodle and Gatorade for Hallie and the rest of us had microwave dinners. We watched movies and just took it easy. Em did super good in her beds in all the hotels and seemed to enjoy all the space. Hallie was able to get some good rest and din't throw up again after 11pm
Just a side note...its super hard to have sick kids on vacation. Especially this vacation where we had planned on progressing down the coast everyday. We missed out on some things since she didn't feel well. Its hard not to be at home in your own space with all the stuff you rely on to help them feel better
